DIAKONIA - Serving God - Expounding the Scriptures - Bible Studies

LUKE - ACTS      Luke Acts

INTRODUCTION TO THE WEBSITE

THIS website invites Bible students to study the New Testament books attributed to Luke, the second generation Christian, who became a missionary companion to the apostle Paul. The studies will benefit those involved in teaching and pastoral ministry.

Learning outcomes of the notes

The website is prepared to develop a general study and appreciation of the Lucan writings. Teachers may consider the following learning outcomes:

Account for the contents of the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles Appreciate Luke's interest in the person and work of the Holy Spirit Given an account of the place of the Spirit in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ Demonstrate the idea of "continuation" between the Third Gospel and Acts Discuss the charismatic ministry of Jesus Christ and the church.

The notes introduce the following topics:

  • An introduction to the Gospel of Luke

  • Lucan sources

  • The infancy narrative

  • The christological events in the Gospel, e.g., Jesus' birth, baptism and anointing

  • The Gospel's christological events and titles

  • Jesus and his charismatic community

  • The ministry of Jesus

  • An introduction to the Acts of the Apostles

  • The exalted Lord and the empowered Church

  • The mission of the Church and the Spirit

  • The charismatic ministry of the Church

  • Paul's first missionary journey

The website includes questions and items for thought and discussion groups. Students are advised to read widely, and make their own notes. Further reading is suggested. Endnotes feature on separate pages with links.

In-context biblical references have been abbreviated at times, e.g., 1:19 for Lk.1:19.

God bless you as you study God's Word,
