Facing the future.
In the New Year our minds inevitably turn to the future. What does the year hold for us? For some this is a very sober thought. I talked with a hospital patient recently. With tears in his eyes he related how his consultant had given him a year to live. He was facing eternity.

People turn to all kinds of sources seeking a sure word for the future, including spiritism and astrology. These are very uncertain and dark authorities. In Christian fellowships predictive words are sometimes shared on a personal basis, especially through ‘words of prophecy’. These words need to be tested, as the Lord calls us “to walk by faith and not by sight”. * My hope for 2006 is expressed by the Psalmist: “My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I shall never be shaken” (Psalm 61:1,2)

Wishing you a God-blessed year.

FEBRUARY 2006

A Fall!
This month my wife, Brenda, suffered a heavy fall on the way to the shops. She sustained a bad fracture of her left shoulder. She was x-rayed in the accident and emergency department of the Bedford hospital. Three doctors studied the films and expressed the opinion that she might need a replacement shoulder joint. However, a few days later (and after concerned prayer) a consultant said this wasn’t necessary. Treatment was limited to a collar and cuff!

We wish to thank those who have prayed. Brenda was constitutionally shaken up.

Matthew 11: 28-30, displayed on the page earlier became very applicable for us. This featured an invitation from the Lord Jesus:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

MARCH 2006

This month has been an upsetting one for the church we attend.
Two families, suffered the loss of loved ones. Both of the deceased were fathers of dependent children. Then a retired pastor, George Jackson, also went to be with the Lord after suffering with cancer.

The helpful, sustaining prayer of the church has been very meaningful. So has the visit of the Watoto Children’s Choir. The testimony of the children, many of whom lost their parents to aids, put many of our troubles into perspective.

“The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love... As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.”

God bless you,
